History

Since 1942 contributing to the development of the Amazon.

Banco da Amazônia’s history is closely tied to the economic and social development of the Northern Region. We were founded on July 09, 1942, with the mission of financing rubber plantations in the region to supply the Allied countries during World War II.

In the 1950s, we started promoting activities in the industry, trade, and agriculture of the Amazon region, as well as the trade and industrialization of rubber throughout Brazil.

1940s

Banco de Crédito da Borracha (Rubber Credit Bank) was born during World War II to finance rubber production.

1950s

It was renamed Banco de Crédito da Amazônia S/A, expanding financing to other productive activities.

1960s

Banco da Amazônia assumed the role of financial agent of the Federal Government’s policy for the development of the Legal Amazon.

1970s

It became a publicly-held company, with the National Treasury holding an interest of 51% while the public held a stake of 49%.

1980s

Manager of the Northern Constitutional Financing Fund (FNO), created in 1989.

1990s

As a manager of the FNO, it provides mini-, micro-, and small-sized producers and entrepreneurs in the region with access to permanent and stable sources of long-term financing with distinguished charges, resulting in job creation and income generation.

2020

Banco da Amazônia increasingly seeks to improve corporate governance with good market practices to attract new clients and shareholders.

2022

For the first time in history, Banco da Amazônia exceeded 1.2 billion in net income, proving the institution’s professionalism and solidity.

2023

The Bank reported an all-time high income of R$1.3 billion, improved risk management systems, and continues to enhance and facilitate the provision of credit to clients to sustainably develop the Amazon region.

Banco da Amazônia is committed to protecting the environmental wealth of the Amazon region. Environmental conservation has been a key part of our mission since the beginning of our journey in 1942. Over the years, we have financed projects that promote the preservation of the rainforest and the mitigation of climate change.

Since its foundation in 1942, Banco da Amazônia has played a key role in boosting economic and social development in the vast Amazon region. In its early years, the Bank focused on building vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and ports, laying the foundations for economic progress in the region.
