Banco da Amazônia’s history is closely tied to the economic and social development of the Northern Region. We were founded on July 09, 1942, with the mission of financing rubber plantations in the region to supply the Allied countries during World War II.
In the 1950s, we started promoting activities in the industry, trade, and agriculture of the Amazon region, as well as the trade and industrialization of rubber throughout Brazil.
Banco de Crédito da Borracha (Rubber Credit Bank) was born during World War II to finance rubber production.
It was renamed Banco de Crédito da Amazônia S/A, expanding financing to other productive activities.
Banco da Amazônia assumed the role of financial agent of the Federal Government’s policy for the development of the Legal Amazon.
It became a publicly-held company, with the National Treasury holding an interest of 51% while the public held a stake of 49%.
